Apple Strudel

Homemade, thin pastry crust filed with tart apples, sugar and cinnamon. Rolled like a jelly roll and baked golden brown.
Ingredients -
 

Crust:
1 Large Egg
2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
pinch of Granulated Sugar
pinch of Coarse Salt
1/2 cup Water
2 cups All-Purpose Flour

Strudel Filling:
2 pounds Tart Apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thin
5 tablespoons Granulated Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
6 tablespoons Unsalted Butter, melted

 
Preparation:
 

1. Using hand or electric mixer, beat the eggs with the oil, sugar and salt.

2. Slowly add in flour and water, alternating between the two.

3. Knead the dough with your hands until smooth.

4. Grease the dough ball with vegetable oil, wrap in towel and refrigerate overnight.

5. Roll out dough on large floured surface, until paper thin. Let dry 5 minutes.

6. Toss apple pieces with granulated sugar and cinnamon in large bowl.

7. Spread apple filling over dough. Drizzle with melted butter.

8. Roll dough like jelly roll.

9. Place strudel on greased baking sheet.

10. Bake 30 minutes in preheated 375 F oven.

Tart Apples
Your favorite tart apple is fine, but consulting your produce manager for the best baking apple is recommended.

Brunch Tip

Unsalted Butter
Do not substitute regular butter for the unsalted butter, if possible.
