Chocolate Stuffed French Toast

 

Ingredients -

4 ounces Semisweet Chocolate, finely chopped (MUFA)
3 ounces Neufchâtel Cheese, at room temperature
2 cups Sliced Strawberries
1 tablespoon Sugar
1 teaspoon Orange Zest, grated
6 ounces Italian Bread, cut on the diagonal into 8 slices (1/2" thick)
2 Large Eggs
2 Large Egg Whites
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 tablespoon Butter

 
Preparation:

1. In a small bowl, combine the cheese and chocolate and mix well.

2. In another bowl, combine the strawberries, sugar and orange zest and mix well.

3. Divide the chocolate mixture between the 4 slices of bread.

4. Top each slice with another slice of bread.

5. In a medium bowl, combine the whole eggs, egg whites and vanilla extract and beat well to mix.

6. Dip both sides of each sandwich into the egg mixture and set aside on a plate.

7. Add the butter to a large skillet and melt over medium heat.

8. Add the sandwiches and fry until golden on both sides.
